Welcome to Dogwood Comprehensive Dentistry (formerly Bowman Family Dentistry)! Our primary focus is to provide you and your family with the individual attention needed to meet your specific dental goals. While we are meeting those needs, we also emphasize building strong, generational relationships with our patients and their families.

Since 1967, Dr. Kenneth Bowman kept a thriving dental practice in downtown Waynesboro, Virginia. To accommodate growth and acceptance of new patients, Dogwood Comprehensive Dentistry (formerly Bowman Family Dentistry) was relocated to its current location. Dr. Rebecca Shin and her team continue to offer a vast and comprehensive approach to dentistry as the practice continues to grow and evolve into the next generation.

Rebecca Shin, DMD

Practice Owner

Dr. Rebecca Shin is a native Oregonian & attended Portland State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 2003. She graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) School of Dentistry in 2007. Upon graduation, Dr. Shin began practicing at the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Hillsboro Dental Clinic in Hillsboro, Oregon following her joy in public health dentistry. After 3 years, she & her family moved cross country to Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Shin started at Bowman Family Dentistry as an associate dentist on February 1, 2010, & became business owner in 2016 under mentorship of Dr. Bowman.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Shin loves to spend time & travel with her family, is a deacon at her church where she is involved with the music & college ministries, & loves serving through her Rotary Club.

Sadie

Master Practice Administrator

Sadie started working in dentistry in 2016 and her top priority to make patients feel heard, understood, and comfortable still continues today. She enjoys building long lasting relationships with patients. Sadie graduated from Riverheads High School and attended what was then Valley Career & Technical Center for dental assisting. Since then, Sadie continually updates her CPR certification, is X-ray certified, and has completed extensive training in Practice Administration/Front Office and a Master Practice Administrator program. Outside of the office, Sadie enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Aaron, and their wonderful kiddos, Reece and Ridge. She loves spending time outdoors, and especially by the water; the lake and beach are her happy place.

Raeann

Patient Care Coordinator

Raeann is from Fairfield VA and currently resides in Staunton. Raeann graduated from Rockbridge County High School, and completed the dental assisting course at Valley Vocational Technical Center in 2019. She had several friends in dentistry that encouraged her to pursue dentistry as a career, and she has always wanted to be in healthcare after working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In dentistry, Raeann most enjoys being chairside with patients and assisting with dental procedures. In addition to clinical training for an implant course and continuing education courses out of state, she is CPR & X-ray certified. Raeann’s family includes her husband, Carter, and beautiful daughter, Wrynlee. When not at the office, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, shopping, and being on the farm.

Madison

Registered Dental Hygienist

Madison is passionate about patient education and where dental care fits in oral-systemic link of one’s health. She grew up in Stuarts Draft and attended Stuarts Draft High School. Madison went on to further her education at Blue Ridge Community College, JMU (Go Dukes!), and to earn her dental hygiene degree at VWCC (Class of 2021). Madison’s orthodontist, Dr. Cloth helped spark her interest in dentistry. This led her to complete the dental assisting course at what was then Valley Vocational Technical Institute. After high school graduation, Madison began her career in dentistry in 2014 as a dental assistant. Subsequently, she grew her dental experience in the front office, and later returned to our office in 2021 as a dental hygienist. Outside of the dental operatory, Madison enjoys spending time with her beautiful daughters and reading.

Lindsey

Registered Dental Hygienist

Lindsey is a graduate of Wytheville Community College and has her Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. Lindsey enjoys getting to know her patients and making a positive influence through education and encouragement as she partners with her patients on their oral health. When Lindsey is not in the office serving patients, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Preston, and their two beautiful daughters.

Kathryn

Registered Dental Hygienist

Kathryn is from a small town named Tazewell in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia. She began her career in dentistry in 2013 after graduating from Wytheville Community College with her Dental Hygiene degree. Kathryn babysat for a dentist who inspired her to complete a work-study program that allowed high school students gain work experience. Kathryn completed her program in her hometown dental office and assisted Dr. Householder in all aspects of the front and back office. Kathryn has always been enthusiastic about helping others and vibing positively during patient interactions and connecting with her patients one on one. Each day is different, and she loves seeing positive results as she partners with her patients to customize care. Outside of dentistry, Kathryn loves being a boy mom. This mama loves to embarrass her boys with her dance moves, is always there for her boys from their sporting events to the outdoors where they fish and hunt, when riding bikes, and playing video games. She and her family love to travel. Kathryn loves giving back and volunteering at her boys’ school and free dental clinics in the area. In the future, she would love to get back on a horse and do more trail riding, but for now, Kathryn is just trying to master motherhood.

Kiersten

Registered Dental Hygienist

Kiersten was born and raised in Augusta County, Virginia. She graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 2021, then attended Blue Ridge Community College to obtain the necessary pre-requisites to apply to dental hygiene school. In 2024, Kiersten completed her Associate in Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Virginia Western Community College and joined our team. Kiersten is most passionate about preventing gum disease and focusing on full-body health. In her spare time, Kiersten enjoys being with her family, her fiance, snuggling with her yellow lab, Riggs, and trying new foods.

Amber

Lead Dental Assistant

Amber has worked in dentistry since November 2009. She grew up in Waynesboro VA and graduated from Wilson Memorial High School. In the same year, she completed the Dental Assisting program at Valley Vocational Technical Center. She is CPR and X-ray certified. Amber most enjoys connecting with patients, helping them meet their oral health care needs, and seeing boosts in their confidence. Outside of work, Amber enjoys spending time with her husband, Logan, and two beautiful daughters, Raelynn and Ryleigh. Her favorite to-do’s also include shopping, going to Smith Mountain Lake, and helping on the family farm.

Brittani

Dental Assistant

Brittani grew up in Rockingham County and currently resides in Mount Sidney with her husband and beautiful daughter. She attended Massanutten Technical Center where she completed the dental assisting program, and has been growing in dentistry since 2012. Brittani has always been interested in dentistry, being trained in Cerec technology in addition to dental assisting skills. She enjoys connecting with patients and helping those with dental anxiety overcome their fears. Outside of dentistry, Brittani enjoys going to Lake Anna with her husband, Anthony, and daughter, Cora, and two miniature schnauzers. Brittani also enjoys gardening (she has quite the green thumb!) and taking care of her chickens.

Brianna

Dental Assistant

Brianna was born and raised in Rockbridge County and attended Rockbridge County High School. She has been in dentistry since 2022 when she chose dental assisting as a career. Brie, as we call her, loves to be able to help patients feel confident about their smiles and also help those who are experiencing dental pain. Brianna enjoys to assist chairside, especially when a patient is seeking their picture perfect smile. In life outside of the office, Brianna loves spending time with her husband and two beautiful children, and being outdoors. Brianna also enjoys going to the lake and supporting family and friends in their endeavors.

Hannah

Office Concierge/Hygiene Coordinator

Hannah began her career in dentistry in 2022 and is an integral part of our front office team. As our Hygiene Coordinator and Office Concierge, she helps ensure smooth scheduling, clear communication, and a welcoming experience for every patient. Hannah completed dental assisting and Dental Front Office Training programs in her pursuits in dentistry. She is most passionate about patient engagement in the dental setting. Outside of the office, Hannah attends all of her children’s sporting events and passions. She loves family game nights, popcorn & movies in the bed with all the kids, and exploring new campgrounds in the summer.

Kenneth Bowman

D.D.S.

Congratulations to Dr. Kenneth Bowman on his retirement! He has dedicated his heart and soul in service of his patients for more than 50 years while building our amazing dental practice. Though he will be sorely missed, we are thrilled to see him enjoy retirement in our community surrounded by family and friends (many of whom started as patients!).

Dr. Bowman is one of Virginia’s own, born in Grottoes, Virginia. He graduated from Montevideo High School then went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater College in 1963. Pursuing one of his life passions, he attended Medical College of Virginia earning one of the highest clinical awards in his third year of dental school. Once Dr. Bowman graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1967, he opened his private practice in downtown Waynesboro. Since then, Dr. Bowman continued to provide compassionate, exceptional and customized dental care for patients from the Staunton/Augusta/Waynesboro area as well as larger surrounding areas.

Dr. Bowman and his wife, Nancy, are the proud parents of two grown sons, grandparents to three wonderful grandchildren, and great-grandparents to two amazing great-grandkids. He enjoys golf, is deeply involved in the Fish & Game Association, is a long-time board member and supporter of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and is the biggest fan and supporter of the Bridgewater Eagles.
